Cultural Events in South Pelion Throughout the year, there are many festivals, celebrations and cultural events that take place throughout the Pelion peninsula. Below you can find information about some of the cultural events that take place, and to which everyone is welcome to attend. Platanias - South Pelion One of the oldest buildings in Platanias is the church of Agii Anargiri taht is dated from 1916. This church celebrates with a large two day religious and traditional festival every year on the 1st of July. Also every year in Platanias the Cultural Association “Friends of Platanias” organises the "Platanias’s Night", with traditional Folklore orchestra. On this night free fish soup ( bouyabess ) is served, as well as local wine, while the beach party on the sandy beach thrives long into the night. The same Association also organizes the religious festival of the church Panagia Mousgiotisa, in the yard area of the church. The Association supports and promotes the preservation, restoration and reforming the surround area. We are currently developing this section to include much more information about cultural and religious events that take place throughout the year, and which we hope to have available online in the very near future.
